December 22. "Friends of Norway" society has approved their activity plan for year 2004.
December 18. It looks like Russia's Ambassador to Norway Yuly A. Kvitsinskiy has got a seat in Duma via the Communist Party list (see candidate No.15). We congratulate him.
December 1. Under-age children of Russian women who marry Norwegian men have to live in Russia alone for a long time, awaiting family reunification. Is this fair? - asks Jan Tuv from Bergen.
The new Stor norsk-russisk ordbok by V.P. Berkov is to appear in Norwegian book stores in early December. The dictionary is priced around NOK 900 (USD 130) and published by Kunnskapsforlaget. ISBN 8257312215.
P.S. "RB" is to publish an interview with Prof. Berkov in December issue.

October 25. Ingvald Godal argues in his new book that FSB was behind the "Chechen terrorist actions", e.g. the ones in Moscow in 1999 and a year ago.
October 15. UDI wonders why the flow of Chechen asylum-seekers into Norway has risen sharply, while there is no such rise in other European countries. Applications from Chechens are temporarily put on hold until the handling practice is re-evaluated by UDI.

September 7. We congratulate asylum-seeker from Murmansk, whose obscene graffito has been mailed to each home in Norway on the back side of the information booklet from Norwegian Police.
September 6. Issue no. 4 of Russian Boulevard newspaper is now being distributed via Russian clubs and our contacts in different cities.

August 29. Oslo. NRK Drama is urgently seeking Russians for filming of a soap opera (announce: PDF | Word). Selection of candidates takes place on September 3.
July 20. Book 2 in series La oss snakke norsk is available for ordering.
July 16. Russian-Norwegian directory now contains more than half a thousand links.
The 500th link added has been the Finnish Russian-language magazine New Horizons. The magazine is targeted to businessmen and decision-makers working with Northern Europe and Scandinavia, including Norway.

June 6. TV2 has shown a documentary "St. Petersburg 300 år" about the city and people living in it. It's an interesting film; you can view it via Internet.
May 23. Russians aged 17 to 25 living in Norway can apply for a trip to the summer camp "Education. Democracy. Youth" organized in Russia. Application deadline May 31. More info: PDF (70KB) | Word (30KB).
May 23. In Sweden, all Russian societies and clubs came together in Stockholm to discuss how to establish a nationwide association.
This is a development which we watch with great interest, because similar ideas have also been voiced in Norway. By the way, in Norway UDI provides a decent financial support to nationwide immigrant associations. Existing clubs, sites, parishes, organizations could form such an association, which would give them centralized support for information services, collaboratively published magazine/newspaper, etc.
May 16. Application deadline for NFR scholarship programs is June 15, including programs for collaboration with North-Western Russia and Baltic States.
May 9. Open position: Norwegian lecturer at Petrozavodsk State University.

April 4. Novel "Russian Wife" by Natalia Kopsov is now available on-line.
March 25. The map of Russian Norway now has one more star: Kalina, Russian-Speaking Society of Vestfold has been added to the directory.

March 3. PhD scholarship for Russian student at the University Center on Svalbard. Subjects of study: behaviour of oil spills, ice mechanics.
March 2. Aftenposten writes: one doesn't usually celebrate death anniversaries, but Stalin was such an evil dictator that we've made an exception.
March 2. Norwegian cultural events in St. Petersburg, from May till November 2003. Concerts, plays, seminars, exhibits, and a ballet.
February 20. Oslo. Nationalteatret staged "The Cherry Orchard" by A. Chekhov. The premiere was on February 15.
February 12. The mayor of Karasjok was lightly beaten and had to part with his pocketbook and mobile phone in Murmansk. He complains that Russian media invented extra details to make the episode look bigger than ordinary mugging.
February 11. You can now listen to several songs by Jørn Simen Øverli on-line. Jørn Simen translates Vladimir Vysotsky's songs into Norwegian.
He gives concerts few times a year in various cities. In March, you can meet him in Trondheim:

- March 4. Eccentric evening in Studentersamfundet at 19:00, ca. 1 hour long.
February 9. There is an open position for professional Russian-Norwegian interpreter in Longyearbyen. Application deadline February 21.
February 6. Presidential Program for training of Russian managers and civil servants in Norway 2003 is now open for applications. Application deadline March 31st.
January 19. Oslo. Exhibits "I Am the Light of the World" and "Space of Hearts" are prolonged till March 23.
January 16. Norway has built a new border checkpoint "Borisoglebsky" on the Russian side of the border. Last year, 130,000 people crossed Russian-Norwegian border, a 65-fold increase since 1990.
The opening ceremony preceded the 10 year anniversary of Barents Euro-Arctic Council, which was celebrated in Kirkenes on January 11.

August 14. Oslo. St. Olga parish moves all its services to the church on Vår Frelsers gravlund, Akersveien 33. On September 13 at 17:00, the church will be consecrated by Orthodox priests; ordinary Vespers follow. The next day at 10:00, a Divine Liturgy is conducted.
The formal consecration by an Orthodox bishop will take place at a later date.
August 4. Bergen, August 9, at 10:00. Divine Liturgy in the chapel of St. Sunniva at Florida hospital, conducted by the priest from Holy Nikolai parish.
July 24. Oslo, September 7. Consecration of the newly built church for St. Nicholas parish by Archbishop Gabriel (from Paris). After more than 70 years, the parish founded by a Russian refugee in 1920s has succeeded in building its own chuch in the center of Oslo, Tvetenveien 13 (Helsfyr).
July 22. Hurdal Orthodox monastery, August 1. Celebration of 100 years of St. Seraphim of Sarov's canonization: liturgy at 10:00 in the monastery church, lecture and meal, and akathist at 16:00 in the new chapel dedicated to St. Seraphim of Sarov. From Hl. Nikolai parish.
June 9. Bergen. Orthodox services, conducted by the priest from Holy Nikolai parish in the chapel of St. Sunniva at Florida hospital:

June 6 through June 22 there will be an icon-painting exhibition and sale in this church, open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 12:00-17:00, in order to raise money for church repairs.
